Six dead after Kenyan, Rwandan buses collide in Uganda

A head-on collision involving Rwandan and Kenyan buses has claimed the lives of six people along the Ntungamo-Kabale highway today morning. The accident occurred at Hakabira on top of  Rwahi hill in Rwahi town council in Ntumgamo district, western Uganda.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at around 04:00 am when the driver of the Volcano Bus, registration number, RAD 798B destined for Kampala from Kigali-Rwanda changed lanes and crashed into the Oxgen bus, registration number KCU 054L destined for Kigali from Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

Our reporter at the scene counted six lifeless bodies. Among the dead is the driver of the Oxygen bus. The identities of the deceased passengers were not readily available. URN also saw several injured passengers being rushed to the ROTOM clinic Muhanga in Muhanga town council Kabale Regional referral and Rugarama hospitals.

By the time of publishing this story, police were also still struggling to retrieve the lifeless bodies from the wreckage of the buses as well as rushing the victims to health facilities. 

Elly Maate, Kigezi region police spokesperson confirmed the death of the six passengers. He said their preliminary investigations attribute the accident to morning fog that affected the visibility of the drivers.
