Panga-wielding robbers hack Katwe police officer Baguma

Four suspected robbers have been arrested for allegedly robbing and hacking Katwe police division officer, Frederick Baguma on Tuesday morning.

The robbers allegedly attacked Baguma, a resident of Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality, in Wakiso district at around 3 am Tuesday. Baguma later alerted his colleagues at Katwe who deployed sniffer dogs which led to the arrest of four suspects; Umar Mukiibi, Jimmy Mawanda, Ecau Abraham, and Joseph Canodia. They were picked up from inside a nearby construction site.

Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said the suspects robbed Baguma of a flat-screen valued at Shs 1.2 million and money. However, Owoyesigyire said the suspects were not found with any of the stolen items but they are currently detained at Katwe police division.

“At approximately 3:00 am, it is alleged that assailants gained access to officer Baguma’s residence and stole a flat-screen television valued at Shs 1.2 million and a small bag containing an unspecified amount of money. The assailants inflicted injuries on the victim before fleeing the scene. Officer Baguma promptly reported the incident to the police,” Owoyesigyire said.

Meanwhile, police in Kassanda district are looking for an unidentified suspect who attacked the home of an 80-year-old man, Hire Kabutohize, and cut him to death.

Racheal Kawala, Wamala regional police spokesperson, said the suspect who was armed with a panga accessed the deceased’s home on Tuesday at 8 pm while he was with his wife in the sitting room. Kawala explained that the attacker forced the woman to enter her bedroom leaving the deceased alone and cut him several times.

According to Kawala, the incident happened at Kiwangula LC I, Ndeeba parish, Mannyogaseka sub-county. Police have launched a hunt for the suspect and also interrogations are being done of the widow.
